David R. Brown, M.D., Ph.D. is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. He is a solo private practitioner in Rockville, Montgomery County, Maryland.
Dr. Brown obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and his Master of Science degree in Neural and Endocrine Regulation at the Massachusetts Institutes of Technology. He then moved to New York where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Molecular Biology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Following Internal Medicine training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, he joined the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. He received his Endocrinology Fellowship training through a combined program at both the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the NIH, and subsequently remained at the NIH participating in both basic and clinical research. His major research interest at the NIH involved the development of adenoviral-based gene therapy systems for the study of lipoprotein disorders and atherosclerosis. In 1995, after nearly nine years at the NIH, Dr. Brown elected to enter private clinical practice and since then he has been in solo practice as a specialist in the fields of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. Dr. Brown has remained active in post-graduate medical education and lectures frequently on the subjects of diabetes mellitus and various aspects of the metabolic syndrome, including lipid disorders and cardiovascular disease prevention.
